Workers flushed more than 3,000 Brooklyn Park public fire hydrants this week. City staff complete the annual chore in order to make sure every hydrant is working in case of a fire.
“What we really want to do is have the residents avoid doing laundry during this week,” said Jon Watson, Brooklyn Park’s, Public Utilities Superintendent. “Sometimes brown water will get into the homes and stain your laundry. Other than that, just be patient and we’ll be done in no time.”
Hydrant flushing also gets rid of sediment to maintain water clarity and quality in distribution pipes.
According to the city, if you see brown water after hydrant flushing, just run cold water from your faucet for a few minutes until it clears up.
